Memorial Fund.
Louie Heckert was a Grand Lake icon who celebrated his 92nd
Birthday by dancing past midnight before being attacked the next morning by
a moose on his walk to church. Louie was a former mayor of Grand
Lake who drove his "Black Beauty" jeep announcing all the parades comng
down Grand Avenue as well as the Bingo games held regularly in Town
Square. Louie handed out Hershey "kisses" to all, bowled weekly
right up to the end of his life, and was loved by all. He was a unique
character - as was his wife Gladys, who proceeded him in death.
This DVD includes Steve Cormey / Walter Holland's
tribute song "I want to be Like Louie", along with recollections about Louie from Grand
Lake locals Jon Cook, Aaron Rhone, Gene Stover, Peter "the Grand
Painter" Esmonde, Don Simpson and others, plus bonus Grand Lake
video of the 2006 Western Weekend (including an interview with town
organizer Doris Braun and video from the parade announced by Bart
Combs), a video montage of Grand Lake events set to the music of
Steve Cormey's "Homeward Vagabond", footage of Winter Carnival and the
Snow Sculpture contest and the Grand County Rendezvous Dog Sled Races,
plus more.
This DVD is also available from Peter "the Grand Painter"
or at the Lariat Saloon in Grand Lake - for $20.
